ASA Code of Conduct

INTRODUCTION

The American Subbuteo Association believes that Subbuteo players should passionately compete and also contribute positively to an ethos of fair play and sportsmanship, and demonstrate a care towards the well-being and enjoyment of all players, referees, organizers and officials.

The Association is therefore founded upon and overseen according to the following Key Tenets, which comprise the Code of Conduct that maximizes enjoyment and engagement in the sport of Subbuteo in the USA for its member players:

  • A spirit of cooperation, integrity, camaraderie and team play
  • Respect for opponents, teammates, referees, tournament organizers, and ASA officials
  • Sportsmanship and fair play
  • Appropriate control over emotions and speech
  • Understanding of, and respect for, the rules

Any behavior observed in violation of this Code should be reported immediately to the President of the Association, using the Code of Conduct Violation Form. All allegations of violation will be treated confidentially, investigated thoroughly and promptly, and may result in disciplinary action.

PLAYER AGREEMENT – I WILL:

  • Treat my opponents with respect at all times
  • Respect the judgment of match officials, abide by the rules of the contest, and not create unnecessary tension
  • Cooperate with organizers and fellow participants to co-create a fair contest
  • Live up to the high standards of sportsmanship embraced by ASA (unsportsmanlike behavior includes, but is not limited to: deliberately smashing the ball against an opponent’s hand to gain a free kick or penalty; knowingly taking four flicks; not calling self after committing a finger foul; not advising the referee of a situation the referee didn’t see; not replacing players or the ball correctly on the pitch at a dead-ball; dishonestly claiming a ‘hit’ or a ‘miss’).

REFEREE AGREEMENT – I WILL:

  • Referee all games assigned to me without complaint and with best effort and focus
  • Set a good example of sporting conduct for the players to align to
  • Instruct the players in their sportsmanship responsibilities and expect that they hold competition and sportsmanship as equal priorities
  • Enforce penalties for participants who do not abide by sportsmanship standards (report any violation of the Code of Conduct; issue a Yellow/Red card as appropriate)
  • Continuously improve my knowledge, understanding and interpretation of the FISTF Subbuteo Rules.
